The Tonlé Sap Lake:
Cambodia is home to Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, Tonlé Sap Lake. The lake’s size changes from season to season, ranging from an area of 2,500km2 to 16,000km2. The flow of water from the Tonlé Sap River also changes direction twice a year, making it a natural wonder!
Cuisine:
Cambodia’s national dish is amok, a curry that is steam-cooked in banana leaves. Varieties of the dish include fish, chicken, tofu and more.
World’s largest religious monument:
Angkor Wat, the national symbol and the highlight of any visit to Cambodia, is the crowning jewel of Khmer architecture, and the largest, best preserved, and most religiously significant of all the Angkor temples.

New Year is a massive celebration:
Choul Chnam Thmey (Khmer for ‘enter new year’) is the biggest celebration of the year lasting for three days. Celebrated in April, Khmer New Year is a time when Cambodians with Khmer roots stop working for a whole 3 days and return to their homes to celebrate the end of the traditional harvest season.
The best way to travel is by Tuk-Tuk:
Tuk-tuks are the preferred method of transport in Cambodia for their effectiveness in navigating the streets and bypassing the road rules!
There’s no McDonald’s:
This is one of the more unique Cambodia facts but you read it right! There are no Mcdonald’s in Cambodia, but there is a Burger King.
CAMBODIA VISA
Indian Passport holders can apply for the Cambodia Visa prior to their travel or can also opt for the Cambodia Visa on arrival. However, it is recommended to get the Cambodia Visa in India itself to avoid any last-minute problems and long queues at the Cambodia Airport. The visa can be obtained from the Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airport. At the immigration checkpoint, visitors need to show certain documents upon their arrival. A printed copy of the Cambodian visa approval letter. It is valid for 03 months from the date of issuance and its holders may stay for up to 30 days in Laos.
Documents required for Cambodia Visa:
- Original passport with a validity of at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Cambodia.
- One recently taken photo of the size 4 × 6 cm on a white background.
- A completed application Cambodia visa on arrival which can be provided at the airport, on the flight, or at the border.
- A copy of the hotel accommodation.
- Proof that you will have sufficient funds for your visit to Cambodia. Cash or credit card statements may be submitted; a minimum of about Rs.42,000 is recommended.
- An itinerary or confirmed tickets for the return flight.
- You must pay the Cambodian on arrival visa fee in US dollars at the counter.
